Minister of Education, Prof. Berhanu Nega, Visited Addis Coder Trainees*

Prof. Berhanu Nega, the Minister of Education, recently visited the Addis Coder trainees, who have been selected from across the country to receive coding training. The program is led by trainers from the USA, primarily esteemed university professors.
During his visit, Prof. Berhanu encouraged the students to work diligently and persist in their efforts. He emphasized the importance of their dedication, not only for their personal development but also for the future service of their country.
Addis Coder is a free 4-week summer program teaching algorithms and programming to high school students, founded in 2011 by Prof. Jelani Nelson, Chair of the Computer Science Division at the University of California, Berkeley. The program began collaborating with the Ministry of Education in 2016 as one of its partners to scale nationally, selecting students from across the country to participate in its annual training program, and it has trained approximately 700 students so far. Volunteer trainers have been recruited from all across Ethiopia, as well as abroad from universities and companies such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, CMU, KAIST, EPFL, Tel Aviv University, Google, Facebook, Dropbox, and Microsoft.
