State Minister of Education, Geremew Huluka, said teachers need to be given due recognition and respect as they have an important role in shaping generations.

Starting from this year the government has decided to celebrate Teachers' Day nationwide the minister said.

The government initiative and readiness to take responsibility for this day celebration nationwide which was previously celebrated by the Ethiopian teachers' union makes this year's Teachers 'Day special.

It is said that the day will be celebrated with respect to teachers, presenting various research papers and panel discussions.

President of the Ethiopian Teachers Association, Dr. Yohannes Benti, on his part said the association will work to restore the dignity and to answear questions of teachers.

The Day will be celebrated consistently for one month starting from September 20 at school and nationwide.

The Ethiopian Teachers Association has more than 600,000 memebrs.
